In 2007, Mango Ginger Bakery & Coffee Shop opened in humble circumstances with a small menu, an inexperienced baker and the insecurity of being new. Over the past ten years, we have greatly expanded the menu, the baker has become an expert and we have moved up the road into much bigger premises, a house converted into a quaint bakery and coffee shop right in the heart of Observatory.
The philosophy at Mango Ginger has always been about delicious food and good health combined, using only top end ingredients: stone ground flour, full fat dairy and free-range meats. Originally, our niche market was gluten- and wheat-free food and cakes and we are proud to be able to say that our focus has not changed but expanded. Our repertoire now also includes sugar-free and vegan options for our ever growing client base. At least half of Mango Ginger’s menu is vegetarian and you can even find us listed on the vegan website, allowing for a good variety of innovative, plant based meals. Our sauces and dips are home made and our bright green hummus gets half a bunch of parsley per batch, filling the consumer with vitality and goodness.
The menu has grown and morphed but the basic formula of Mango Ginger has remained true to the original vision. We came up with a gluten-free alternative for our very popular wrap menu, produce three flavours of wheat free pies, and are constantly experimenting with bakes and specials, such as vegan cakes, gluten- and sugar-free baked cheesecakes, seed crackers, pistachio nut shortbread and much more. The coconut and lemon cheesecake has become a firm favorite in our daily gluten- and sugar-free offerings.
Lunch offerings are kept alive by regular updates to our menu to make sure we include a variety of seasonal meals, try out new things and stay creative. Examples of what you may find on our lunch menu are: Aubergine involtini filled with four cheeses, nuts, mint & lemon zest; Almond & ginger venison casserole; Potato rosti with spinach and mushroom, topped with two poached eggs and so much more. Another customer favourite are our home-made, flavoursome soups – always vegetarian and served as a generous helping with home baked toast and butter.
