“Mango Ginger is a quaint bakery/coffee shop, just the right fit for Obs, run by the baker and owner, Fiona. The menu is a big step up from the place we almost went to. It features so many things with an original twist that you just have to have, and you get instant menu indecision. Well we did anyway. Literally wanted to order one of everything and take half the shop home in a doggy bag. Order indecision is such a hard thing, but when there’s two of you who don’t mind divvying up a plate, you at least get to try two things instead of just one. We had the Croissant French Toast and the toasted Brie with onion marmalade on sourdough. Aaron had the man-sized steak sarmie which came at the recommendation of the owner, and it’s one of their signature dishes. And as if menu indecision isn’t bad enough, there is some very tempting confectionary on the shelves, presumably baked fresh every day. You can buy the cakes to take home, as well as some of Fiona’s home made frozen meals. We bought a red beef curry, a corn and something soup, which we ate over the next few days. All delicious. We also bought an apple & apricot pecan nut pie which lasted all of 2 minutes once we got home. The decor is homely and welcoming, and there are some lovely individual touches which you only get from a place where the owner has poured her heart and soul into it, like the gift vouchers printed with icing on oversized cookies, and the teapots hanging in the wall. I loved it, and I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Obs.” (Adam Rabinowitz, June 2023)
“This morning, we required a venue with foreign friends that were gluten intolerant. We chose Mango Ginger based on other trip advisor recommendations. Met by an attentive Manageress who served us our meals and was astounded by the amazing service and product knowledge. Generally a lovely place with good food, great coffee and refreshing drinks. Nice add on touch were the cookies served with coffees and teas. Healthy alternative options to the menu was appreciated by our friends. Take-away bars and seed balls were also a great option. We will definitely be back, away from the mad cycling rush in Cape Town that is over the Cycle Tour weekend.” (PaulVanR, March 2023)
“I asked Fiona at Mango Ginger if she could create a sugar-free chocolate cake for my aunt and uncle’s 50th wedding anniversary and the answer was a resounding yes. The result – a HUGE and beautiful cake decorated with gold glitter and ribbon, with extra ribbon for the knife which was such a thoughtful touch. We also bought a few small cakes to go with it and they were all a big hit and so delicious! Thank you! You made the day even more special for us.” (Natalie Spires, March 2020)

“I’m so glad we found Mango Ginger. We had a lovely lunch, service was good and the food was GREAT. Even my hubby (a carnivore who appreciates big portions), was impressed. It’s difficult to find a restaurant that caters for people with food in tolerances… My chicken pie was wheat and dairy free – no compromise on the taste! And they stock a wide variety of bakes and sweet treats for those who want to treat themselves with a clean conscience.
We will be back!” (Constance Pansegrouw, July 2019)
“Oh my word, the vegan savory pancakes were tasty and delicately flavoured and the white sauce made it a meal out if this world. They made two portions, served with organic spinach, broccoli, cauliflower and a side salad. I’ll be back for more.” (Debra West, September 2018)

“Just had the most delicious goats cheese and caramelised onions quiche at Mango Ginger. I chose potato wedges to accompany mine and my partner chose salad. Either way both options are delicious. The quiche was the winner each mouthful was a treat. I also had a mango and banana smoothie. Can’t wait to come back.” (Jason, February 2015)
“Wheat + Gluten free meals made with love. If you are wheat or gluten intolerant then this is the place to satisfy your taste buds. The quiche and salads are so nutritious and filling that I always end up with a yummy dessert like a chocolate and ginger mini cake to take home. “Our first meal in Cape Town and one to remember. I had French toast croissant with bacon and honey which was fabulous while my partner had what she deemed the best sandwich she had ever tasted! We sat outside and the area definitely had a student area feel about it — very relaxed and slightly bohemian. The staff were great and couldn’t do enough and it was certainly excellent value.” (S.P., February 2011)
